Possibly because of the 'clash' with England's World Cup Semi-Final match the numbers for this evening's Social Scramble fell below the usual 40 plus but a good turnout nevertheless - with most finishing up in the hotel Bar. We detected a mixed reaction to England's exit!
With the Pros from the two-day PGA Challenge finishing up as our event got going the course looked splendid. And the reaction from those Pros we spoke to over the past few days was universally positive. Well done to David Brady and his team who have dealt superbly with the drought conditions in recent weeks.
We were delighted to see 'The King' Tom Bryan make his return to competition golf. With his partner Declan Byrne he returned a creditable score.
On the Best Gross front Stephen and Declan Cullen shot a good 32, which I am told could have been a few better. Mick Curran and Darryl Litton also had 32. At the half-way stage in the season Brendan Daly and Denis Mahon are still out in front with their score of 31.
Pat and Catherine Edgeworth were leading the Best Nett with 26.8 and they repeated that same score tonight. Well done. With a reduction of 1.0 in their handicap for their previous 'win' this pushed them out of tonight's prizes however.
A brand new pairing which 'emerged' this evening of Martin Cummins and Alan O'Hara (in his first Social Scramble) brought in an excellent score of 27.0 to take 2nd place.
And the winners were John and Mary Curley with a really good four birdies on their card and a top-class Nett score of 26.4 - which is also the new Best Nett for 2018.
Congratulations to all the prize winners.
Same time next Wednesday.
