Winter League 2017/18
As autumn passes into winter we will see the beginning of the 2017/18 Winter League on Saturday 4th November. As in previous years there will be prizes in both the singles and doubles categories. Should you wish to enter the doubles please enter your names on the entry form which will be on the notice board in the Pro Shop from this weekend and will remain open for entries until Sunday 12th November.
The Captain would like to pass on his thanks once again to all those who made donations to and took part in his Charity Day.
A total of €4,120 was raised and cheques for €2,060 have now been presented MS Ireland and Féileacáin. Both charities pass on their thanks to all the members who donated and the funds raised will be put to good use.
The club matchplays have now reached their conclusion and thanks to all members who entered the various competitions. Congratulations to our winners who were as follows:
Singles Matchplay Paddy Carthy
Doubles Matchplay John Field & Gavin Buckley
Mixed Foursomes Matchplay Louise Lehane & Shemus Dore
The matchplay prizes will be presented at the End of Year Scramble which will take place on Sunday 12th November.
Gold Medal Match
The Gold Medal match was run on Saturday 14th October and was contested by John Hyland, Mick Curran, Pearse Daly and Shemus Dore. Unfortunately work commitments and an injury prevented Patrick Connolly and Tom O’Rourke from participating in the match. After a close fought battle it was John Hyland who came out on top – a big congratulations to John on putting the Gold Medal alongside his Medal win from June.
Golfer of the Year
Congratulations to Patrick Connelly on winning the 2017 Gofer of the Year, winning in style picking up his second Monthly Medal of the year in October.
After 665 birdies and 6 eagles we have our winners.
Cat 1: Mick Curran
Cat 2: Shea McGrath
Cat 3: Brian Walsh
See Web Site for full tables.
We were up against Blessington Lakes in the annual Lakeside Challenge on Sunday 15th October. This is a competition that Blessington Lakes have dominated for the few short years it has been in existence. However, we made home advantage count and ended up with a comprehensive win to regain the trophy. As some of you will have heard Blessington Lakes will be closing at the end of the year – which was sad news to hear as we have always had a good relationship with our near neighbours. I am sure we are likely to see some members of Blessington Lakes join our ranks in the coming months and we will extend a warm Tulfarris welcome to them all. The Lakeside Challenge team that represented Tulfarris on the day were – Mick Curran and Denis Mahon, Liam O’Loughlin and Pearse Daly, Paddy Carthy and Jim Carty, Charlie Magee and Tom McIntyre, Ian O’Shaughnessy and Kevin O’Connor, Colum Smith and Brian Walsh and Shemus Dore and Mark Reilly.
Conditions of Play
General Reminder: Members are reminded to ensure that they are aware of our Competition Conditions of Play which are posted on our Club Notice Board in the Check-in Computer Room & also on our Web Site – Rules Page.
Dates for Your Diary:
We have a number of events pencilled into the calendar as we come into the final two months of 2017.
12th November – End Of Year Scramble
First up is the End of Year Scramble which will take place on Sunday 12th November. This will be a shotgun start (tentatively pencilled in for 9am – exact time will be advised on BRS). Should you wish to play please put your name down on the timesheet through the BRS from 8am this coming Saturday. We will be doing a draw for teams on Saturday 11th November so please ensure you have entered via BRS by 5pm on Friday 10th November. Entry into the scramble will be €10 (€5 for juniors) and we will collect this at the registration in Adrian’s Bar from 8am on Sunday 12th November – where tea, coffee and scones will be served.
There will be a meal immediately after the Scramble at which prizes for the scramble will be presented to the winning teams and we will also present other outstanding prizes along with the Matchplay prizes.
26th November – Annual General Meeting
This year’s AGM will take place on Sunday 26th November. The AGM typically starts at 2:30pm, so the Winter League that day will be a shotgun start. A formal AGM notice will follow shortly.
3rd December – Christmas Scramble
The Christmas Scramble will take place on Sunday 3rd December. More details on the format and timings will follow closer to the date.
We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at these events over the coming weeks.
