Newsletter December 19th 2015

Dear Members,

Christmas Scramble:

On a particularly soft day, 44 members competed in the 14 hole Christmas scramble.

As usual scoring was hot and the winners on the day were:

3rd place: 45.6 Mick Curran, Tom McIntyre, Kevin O’Connor & Michael Manning

2nd place: 45.0 Tom O’Shea, Daniel Lawlor, Eoin Curley & Tom Brennan

1st place:  42.9 Rita Bryan, James McCarron, John Devereux & Les Broderick

Following the presentation of some lovely prizes, Captain Kieron Ryan and Lady Captain Lindsay Dore gave their inaugural speeches, thanking the catering team, the resort and the course staff and wished all members an enjoyable 2016 and a very Happy Christmas. The event happened to coincide closely with a memorable event for our President Les Broderick who gratefully accepted the club’s well wishes on his 50th Birthday.

Elder Lemons:

Well done to Brian Sweeney who was awarded ‘2015 Elder Lemon of the Year’. This was a close call with Jim Carty who was tied on the same number of wins for the year. The most second place finishes was the tiebreaker in the end.

Garden County/Barton Cup:

We are delighted James McCarron and Niall Robinson have accepted Captain Kieron’s invite to coordinate and oversee our interclub activity for 2016. Great progress is being made in identifying managers for next year’s interclub competitions.

To this end, with commencement of the Garden County shortly upon us, Liam O’Loughlin will manage both our Garden County and Barton Cup panels this year.

Liam has already started preparations and has booked 4 tee times for foursomes each Sunday directly after the ladies. The minimum handicap combined is 14 and there is no maximum limit. There are automatic places on these teams up for grabs on a league basis. If you are interested in joining the competition and panel please contact Liam on (086) 815 3999 or liamoloughlin1@gmail.com for more information.
