January 2019 Newsletter

Dear Members,

Welcome to the 2019 season, I am attaching our Fixture List for the year which have been now also been posted our Website and Notice board.

We plan to officially start our golfing year with the traditional Captain’s Drive-in on Sunday March 3rd.  Before that however, we will as usual have our Valentines Scramble , which this year will be on February 10th. Following on from the strong fields so far this winter we would anticipate a full timesheet for this popular shotgun start event, so please ensure to book in as early as possible and hope for fine frost & snow free weather.

Interclub Events:

Our 2019 Interclub campaigns kick off with the Men’s All-Ireland Fourball with round 1 to be played by March 31st.  This is closely followed by the Irish Mixed Foursomes with round 1 to be played by April 7th , the Barton Cup by April 14th and the Provincial Towns by April 22nd. The competition details and panel registration sheets are up on the Notice Boards. To enable our team managers to co-ordinate a strong preparation, your early registration or contact with the managers is greatly appreciated. The team managers for these events are:

All Ireland Fourball – Manager George Cheung assisted by Enda Daly

Irish Mixed Foursomes – Managed by Peter Pedersen & assisted by Lady Captain Miriam Solan

Barton Cup – Managed by Jerry Lambe & assisted by Tom O’Rourke

Provincial Towns – Manager Stephen Cullen assisted by Pat Curley

Golfing Facilities / Proshop

With the commencement of structural works to extend the lockers room and golfer facility, the check-in area has been operating temporarily under restricted conditions.  A decision was made by the resort to put a better solution in place while is ongoing:

In light of the continuing construction works and the disturbance of late, resort management have decided to move golf operations back to the old Pro shop until further notice or until the development is at an advanced stage. During this period the Ladies changing room will be relocated to the gent’s guest changing rooms.

Winter League – Score entry issues

On a “housekeeping note” for the Men’s Winter League, members are requested to pay particular attention to both the correct completion of score cards including the stableford points and the correct entry of scores into the computer system.  Remember that you must acknowledge your score after 9 holes (not 7) and then after the 5 holes of the back 9.

Our results are now up to date, up to last week’s competition. This is only after many hours of work to clean up incorrectly entered scores. It is worth noting that there has been an increasing number of errors and omissions on computer throughout the Winter League this has impacted the timely completion and publication of results. You may have noticed this on the ‘Howdidido’ app.

Our Comp Sec has to check every score entered and enter any missing scores, all of which is then manually entered on our League table. Discrepancies and errors are becoming very time consuming to resolve.  If you are unable to enter your score into the computer please note this on your card so that the Comp Sec. is made aware of an issue as soon as possible. Your help with this is much appreciated.

Conditions of Play

Please note as per our Conditions of Play (displayed on the noticeboard and website) that social play in the members times on Sunday is not permitted. Should you enter the competition on Saturday you are not permitted to book in on the timesheet for Sunday during the member’s normal competition times.

Timesheet cancellations and last minute changes

Please be mindful of your fellow members and if at all possible avoid late changes the day before your bookings. This is problematic when it leaves a 2 ball in the field and even more so when one members is left on line with no others.  If circumstances are beyond your control and you need to remove your name from the timesheet at short notice, it is important that you notify your playing partners and call the Proshop. The committee will be communicating a policy for dealing with no-show.  Penalties will apply for repeat offenders.

Pace of Play

As always you are asked to be mindful of your pace of play and position in the field. Please endeavour to catch up promptly if you fall behind the group in front. If you cannot, then you must be mindful of the group behind and call them through.

Remember the new rules of golf are designed to assist the speed of play and I trust we are all able to convert this into reality.

Yours in Golf,

Peter Pedersen
