May Newsletter

Dear Members,

It's been a busy start to summer so timely that update you on some of the latest news around the club.

Men's Committee Changes:

As many of you may know already Robbie Nagle, our Hon Sec since the November AGM is leaving our pastures to embark on a lifetime opportunity for he and his family in the USA and as such I (Peter Pedersen) have taken up pencil in the Hon Sec role.   We are grateful for all of Robbie's hard work and input since joining Committee late last year stepping up immediately in the Hon Sec role, for his contributions to Interclubs teams over the past years, notably as a member of last years highly successful Pierce Purcell team/panel and also as an all round great guy to have in the club.    On behalf of Committee, I wish him and his family all the success that this opportunity can bring them.

Handicap Sec role is now being take on by Derek Yeates who is stepping up to Committee full time, having joined myself and Ronnie Carroll on the Handicap sub-committee earlier this year.  I will continue on this sub-committee and continue to act as Course Liaison officer on behalf of Committee. So as usual any input or comments you have in this area continue to send to me and I will liaise with Committee and the Course Superintendent Dave Brady and or the Golf Manager Norma as best I can.

We are pleased also to welcome Charlie Magee to Committee following Stephen Cullen's departure from the club. Charlie I'm sure will bring some news ideas and knowledge to Committee and is well known to many of you having been a member for the past 7 years.

Summer Scramble Startup:

Ann & John Horan  to whom we are again thankful for their continued management of this event throughout summer have confirmed the first evening start for Thursday June 8th, ( not the normal Wednesday evening), and the back to regular every Wednesday thereafter. A new web page on our site has been created to keep you updated here with all from this popular and social event. We hope to see as many of you as possible as early as you can on Thursday 8th from 4:00pm to 6:00pm and thereafter every Wednesday and hope you can stay after for the usual bit of fun in Adrien's bar for the results and post mortums....

Interclub Results:  See also full details in the Interclub page on the web from the inks below:

Barton Cup:  April 17th: Our Barton Cup side unfortunately fell short in their 1st Round match when Dublin Mountain proved too strong on the day in a tight 3-2 scoreline.  Thanks to Liam O'Loughlin & Pearse Daly for their tireless efforts in preparing the panel. This is an extremely difficult event early on in the season. Hard luck to the lads.

Pearse Purcell May:  Our  team under guidance of Dave Reid & Derek Yeates unfortunately could not continue on from last years successes finishing just 2 places out side qualification at Athy finishing a 6th from 14 teams. Teeing off late in the day the weather turned with strong wind and then rain impacting heavily. The Athy course was always going to be a difficult test for us and after some dedicated practice in the weeks beforehand the lads were disappointed having gone in as well prepared and looking forward to the challenge.

South Leinster :

May 21st, saw Enda Daly's men clinch a tense 4-3 victory away to Mount Wolseley.  With the tie level at 3-3 it fell to Mick O'Toole to clinch the victory.  The panel now work towards match-up with Dunmurry Springs in Round 2.

Brennan Cup:   This Saturday sees Brendan Daly & Paul Fitzpatrick take a very strong side on a difficult 1st up match away to Carlow.  This is an event we have a strong history in having won the event n 2009 and the Panel have put in a spirited and heavy practice schedule in preparation.  Any support on the day in Carlow from 2:30 pm.  Best of luck lads !

Provincial Towns:

Round 2  saw our Provincial Towns sideManaged by Denis Mahon & Mark Walshe make a real statement with a comprehensive  6-0 victory over our neighbours Blessington Lakes.  They now take on Newbridge G.C. on Sunday May 28th and any support on the day would be grestly appreciated and we wish them well.

Members Private draw Tickets:

Thanks to all who have assisted to date in regard to selling tickets for the draw to be held at the August Captain's Dinner.  In order to make this a success and raise some much needed funds for your club please assist where you can, Tickets can be obtained from Committee starters each week at check in.

Club Matchplays:

Please not the fast approaching June 5th Round 2 deadline for both the Singles & Doubles Matchplay. Please bear in mind this year that we are unable to extend Club Matchplay deadlines.

Non Return of Cards/Scores:

As highlighted by our Comp. Sec,  please note that continued attention & action including potential removal from the competition is being enforced where players are not meeting their obligations in regard to Returning cards and scores.

In closing we are now seeing the benefit of the ongoing works on the course to which David and his staff are working tirelessly to continue, particularly with the Bunker programme, whilst presenting us with magnificent greens resulting from the seasonal maintenance in spring. Focus will now be on maintaining the current course condition throughout the summer growing season and you will continue to be updated via newsletters and the Course Web page with updates and any news in this area.

Finally, don't forget we have an Open weekend again on June 4 & 5,

With Monday seeing the return of the Blue Monster and Sunday being Greens Single stableford.

Yours in Golf,

Peter Pedersen

Hon. Sec.
