Newsletter September 2nd 2016

Dear Members,

The Summer is officially over - and the Summer Social Scrambles are over for 2016. We had a great turnout of 60 golfers this evening for the last of the Social Scrambles. Incidentally, the average number taking part each week up to now has been almost 40 - great numbers for 9 holes on a Wednesday evening!

The celebrations and presentations afterwards (including some extra 'last night' prizes for those present) were again in the Members' Bar - and we were treated to finger food generously supplied by Resort General Manager Mark Howell. Our thanks go to him and to all the Bar and Restaurant staff who looked after us so well during the Summer. The weekly Scramble Specials put on by the Chef were appreciated each evening. Special thanks also go to David Brady and his crew for the excellent presentation of the course throughout the Summer and to Davy and Norma in the Golf Shop for all their help.

On a personal note Ann and I say thank you to the Members for the mementoes presented to us this evening by Captain Kieron and Lady Captain Lindsay. They are very much appreciated.

And so to the results:

In third place tonight with a good score of 27.7 were Gordon Cronin and Philip Dunne. In second place with a great score of 26.6 were Lady Captain Lindsay and Shemus Dore. The first prize was won by two Juniors, Ben Murphy and Tommy Deane with another great score of 25.6.

Well done to all of them.

In the past 12 weeks we had no less than 23 different 'pairs' winning the 1st and 2nd prizes and the average winning score was 26.8. Great golf by a good spread of golfers.

Up to tonight the Gross Scramblers of the Year competition was being led with a score of 31. Brendan Daly and Mick Curran registered this great score early on 20 July but even that score was surpassed this evening. With 3 pars and 6 birdies in a nine hole round which saw 1 two, 4 threes and 4 fours the same two heroes recorded a super 30! They are this year's Gross Scramblers winners. Fantastic scoring lads.

The Best Nett was achieved on 10 August by  Paul Murphy and Declan Byrne with a super score of 25.0. They are the overall winners in the Net Scramblers of the Year competition. Congratulations to them.

Thanks to everyone who took part over the summer - we hope you enjoyed the golf and the camaraderie.
