Newsletter October 27th 2010

Dear Members,

The Clubs' end of year Scramble will take place on next Sunday 31 October with registration from 8.30 a.m. and a shotgun start at 9.30 a.m. The golf will be followed immediately by the presentation of prizes. The competition is very kindly and generously sponsored by Jerry Lambe and we send our thanks to him. If you wish to get your name in for the draw please do so in the next few days by calling Norma in the Golf Shop on 045 867609.

Competition Secretary Les Broderick tells me that the Men's Club will be using this opportunity to present all outstanding Medals, Prizes, Vouchers and Twos money.

Les also has asked me to pass on details of the Winter League Competitions. Full details are also posted by Les in the Golf Shop for your information. The leagues commence on Sunday 7th November 2010 and will continue through to the end of February 2011. The singles league will be calculated from each players best scores in 50% of the rounds played, plus 1 round. All players will be automatically entered into the singles league.

For the doubles league players must nominate their partners on the entry sheet provided in the Golf Shop. It is important that this is done before the league commences. Each pair's score will be calculated by using the combination of their individual best scores in 50% of the rounds played, plus 1 round. There is no additional entry fee for these events over and above the normal Sunday competition fee.

As advised previously Resort General Manager John Caffrey is moving on to manage the Osprey Hotel in Naas. At a formal Liaison Committee Meeting tonight John introduced us to his replacement, Mark Howell. We look forward to a continuation of the excellent working relationship which we have had with John and we wish Mark well in his time at Tulfarris. Incidentally, Mark lists "golf" among his many interests and is currently playing off a handicap of 5.

The meeting was attended by the Captains, John Hyland and Frances Lambe, President Tom Bryan, Vice Captains Pearse Daly and Ann Horan and the Hon Secretaries John Horan and Olive Whelan. Among the matters discussed were the Calendar of Events for the Club's 21st Anniverary year - 2011, retention of existing members and the attracting of new members to the Club, the golf shop and other aspects of the Resorts operations and how they can best meet members' requirements. There was an extensive discussion on Course matters and a more detailed follow up Greens Committee meeting will be held in the very near future with Head Greenkeeper, David Brady and the new General Manager.

Formal notifications and related documentation will issue shortly for the Annual General Meetings which are scheduled for Sunday 21 November after golf. I am pleased to tell you that the Resort will host a finger food buffet reception immediately after the AGMs and we send our thanks to them for this generous gesture. Please put the date in your diary and perhaps you might want also to note that the Christmas Scramble is scheduled for Sunday 5 December.

Finally, members keep on getting holes in one. Our congratulations on this occasion go to Myles Burke for his ace at the Par 3, fifth hole in Baltinglass last Saturday. The bottom of the pin was not visible from the tee box so the excitement only began when they got to the green. Well done to Myles for his first ace - the way he plays it was only a matter of time!

Regards in Golf,

John Horan,

Hon Secretary
