Newsletter November 21st 2011

Dear Members,

AGM 2011 - November 21st

A large number of Members turned out for yesterday morning's round of the Winter League which was played in glorious weather. Close to 50 Members stayed on for the AGM which followed.

The following Motions were passed:

Motions: Constitutional

“That Rule 9.11 be amended to provide for the election of one extra Committee member, bringing the total number of Committee members from ten to eleven, being the five Officers and six other members.”

Motions: General

“A person must have been an ordinary Member of the Club for at least a period of one year in the previous three years before being eligible to win the Captains or Presidents Prizes or the overall Golfer of the Year Award”.

“Given the significant extra work involved at present and given the additional bank charges incurred with the present system of collecting, accounting for and banking weekly payments for competitions and “twos” entry fees and also for Club matchplays it is proposed to replace these with an annual competition entry fee to be charged to all Members at the beginning of the year which will cover members’ entry to all these competitions with the exceptions of the Captains and Presidents Prizes and Social Scrambles”. (This will take effect at the beginning of the Club's next golfing year - 1 March 2012 - and will be set at €120).

At the meeting special tributes were paid to outgoing members of the 2011 Committee - President 2009-2011, Tom Bryan and Captain 2010, John Hyland for their great service to the Club.

The newly elected Officers and Committee for the coming year are: Captain Niall Robinson, President Tom O’Shea, Vice Captain Noel A Kelly, Hon Secretary John Horan, Hon Treasurer Cuan MacAogain and Committee Members Les Broderick, Keith Turner, Ciaran Curley, Greg Edwards and Mark Reilly. 2011 Captain Pearse Daly continues to serve in his "ex offico" capacity.

Comprehensive Reports were received from the Hon Secretary and the Hon Treasurer and the Annual Accounts were adopted.

In his Outgoing Captains Address, Pearse thanked the Members for giving him the honour to serve as Club Captain for the past year. In his review of various aspects of the Club's activities he focussed particularly on the celebration of the Club's 21st Anniversary Year which was now concluding with the publication of a commemorative booklet which was circulated at the meeting. He thanked in particular the Chairman of the sub-committee, Noel Reilly for his work on the publication in conjunction with John Hyland who oversaw the production aspects, and the other committee members who had assisted in the preparation of the booklet - Ann Horan, Madeleine Drew Byrne and Tom O'Shea. For those Members who were not at the meeting - you can collect your copy from Norma when you are next in Tulfarris.

Pearse handed over to the incoming Captain Niall Robinson who then took the opportunity, on behalf of the Members, to pay tribute to Pearse for his great work as Captain. He acknowleged that he "had a hard act to follow". He also referred to the tremendous honour of being selected as Captain and said that he looked forward to continuing the good work that had been done by Pearse and his predecessors.

Under Any Other Business a number of topics were discussed including the importance of sticking to the Club Matchplay Schedule in the coming year and the Members present decided that a deadline date should be established for the ending of each round and that if a match is not completed prior to that date that the Committee fix a time for the match on that final day. If neither player turns up then the match is forfeited by both or if only one player turns up he is awarded the match.

The meeting concluded with an address from Resort General Manager, Mark Howell who said that he hoped to have the new Golf Academy and PGA Pro Thomas O'Neill in place by March 2012 and this was welcomed by the Members present as an important addition to the overall golf experience at Tulfarris.

Mark was thanked for his support for and assistance to the Golf Club in the past year and also for his hosting of the finger food which followed the Meeting.

Winter League continues next Sunday and our Christmas Scramble will take place the following Sunday 4 December - shotgun start at 9.30.

Regards,

John Horan,

Hon Secretary
