Newsletter May 22nd 2011

Dear Members,

Some good news to report on the Interclub front. This evening the Tulfarris team has just had a first round win in the 2011 Brennan Cup against Wexford Golf Club with all matches played "away". With three matches won the other two pairs were called in - overall a very satisfactory result.

The Tulfarris team was Paul Fitzpatrick and John Staunton, Brendan Daly and John Curley, Kevin Higgins and Sean O'Shea, Mick Curran and Myles Burke, and Phelim Dolan and Ciaran Curley.

Team Manager Joe Gardner was delighted with the result and has asked for a good turn out of supporters for the next round match which will be played at Tulfarris against Killerig on a date to be arranged -before 22nd June. We will keep you informed.

Well done to Manager Joe (aka "Jose- the special one") and all the team.

Also on the Interclub front I can tell you that Tulfarris has entered a team in the Jimmy Carroll Cup All Ireland Seniors Team Fourball Tournament 2011. This event is fourball, better ball stableford golf for players 60 years and over as of 31 May 2011 playing off three quarters of their current handicaps. The team will consist of eight players (4 pairs) and the Leinster South qualifying round will be played at Powerscourt Golf Club on Monday 20 June 2011.

Noel Reilly has kindly agreed to manage this team and if you are interested in being on the panel please give Noel a call on 086 2553530 or contact him by email at

One final reminder for those who have not yet paid their 2011 renewal subscriptions and levies - please do so immediately as these lists are about to be finalised.

The Summer Wednesday Scramles tee off between 5 and 6.30p.m. on Wednesday 1 June and continue until the end of August. We look forward to seeing as many members as possible at these sociable events.

Tulfarris Open Days will be held on Sunday 5 June and Monday 6 June and a Semi-Open will be held on the afternoon of Wednesday 15 June. These are opportunities to bring along your friends to your course.

Finally, I should tell you that the Resort is considering a proposal from PGA Professional Thomas O'Neill (who will be familiar to many members) for the establishment of a Golf Academy at Tulfarris. This will involve the construction of driving bays and the installation of a ball dispensing machine and so on at the practice range area. The financing of this new facility will be supported by the Club through the advance payment of the two final monthly instalments of members subscriptions for 2011. The Committee believe that this will be an important new dimension to the Resort's overall golf package for members, and visitors also.

John Horan,

Hon Secretary
