Newsletter June 21st 2011

Dear Members,

Jimmy Carroll Seniors Cup:

On Monday Tulfarris fielded an eight man team in this competition. It was played at Powerscourt East Golf Course in what turned out to be dreadful weather condidtions for those teams playing in the afternoon - including Tulfarris. The format was fourball and Tulfarris was represented by Tom O'Shea and Jim Corley; John Horan and John Britton; Jim Byrne and Richard Cowley and Nigel Fisher and Noel Curran. Team Manager Noel Reilly had put the team through their paces in practice rounds on the Course but despite his best efforts we came up short on the day. As I write this I am unable to give you the list of three Clubs that qualified as this has not been finalised yet by the host Club. We have been advised however that we are not one of the three. Thanks to Noel and all the players for their efforts on behalf of the Club.

21st Anniversary Sunday 3 July:

As you know this year Tulfarris Golf Club celebrates 21 years of golf. The Committees have decided to mark the occasion with a get together of Members on Sunday 3 July 2011. The day's events are being hosted hosted by the Club for the enjoyment of Members, with support also from the Resort which is greatly appreciated

The day will start with tea/coffee and scones in Adrians Bar from 8.30 a.m. Golf Registration will take place between 8.30 and 9.15 for an eighteen hole Scramble with a shotgun start at 9.30 a.m. The golf will be followed by lunch hosted by the Captains and the presentation of prizes. Captains Pearse and Ann are looking forward to seeing as many Members as possible to celebrate the tradition, established throughout the years, of sociability and fun and of course good golf at Tulfarris.

Members can book their slot in the normal way through the On Line Booking System or through the Golf Shop. Please note that the Booking System will be closed on Thursday 30 June so that the draw can be made in advance.

Course Matters:

The Greens Committee have reported on the good work being done by David Brady and his staff on a range of Course matters which they have raised. Those of you who have played in recent times will notice particularly the major cutting of heavy rough which has taken place and which will greatly add to golfers enjoyment of the Course. It has already been the subject of much favourable comment from Members.

For next Sunday when we play our annual Blues competition a special Dropping Zone will be created in the vicinity of the Ladies tee on the 9th hole for those who might not make the long carry across the lake from the Blue tee box. Members can play their third shot from the Dropping Zone and carry on.

On a similar note we can tell you that a permanent Dropping Zone has been created on the pathway between the lakes to the right of the first bunker on the 18th hole. This is designed for shots which carry over that bunker and then "disappear" from view and are obviously in that water hazard ahead of that bunker. A new local rule will be posted in the Golf Shop in this regard.

Club Matchplays:

Concern is being expressed about some Singles and Doubles Club Matchplays which are not being completed by the stipulated closing date. The Committee has decided that if results for 1st round matches are not notified to Peter Pedersen at peter.pedersen@oceanfree.net and Les Broderick at leslie.broderick@gmail.comby Saturday 25 June then Les as Competition Secretary has been mandated to decide the outcome of the match. This could involve the disqualification of one or both players, or one or both of the doubles teams involved. This approach will also be adopted for all future rounds where there is slippage beyond the relevant dates.

Starters:

It has been decided that Committee Members will act as Starters on each Sunday morning from the first tee times through to 9.15 a.m. This is designed to provide a point of contact for Members with the Committee.

Opens and Semi-Opens:

While they are not due for a few weeks we wanted to let you know that the next Semi Open which takes place on Wednesday 20 July will be priced at €10 for Members and €15 for Visitors. The August Bank Holiday Opens will be priced at €10 for Members and €20 for Visitors. On Sunday 31 July the format will change to a 4 Person Team Event where two scores will count on each hole and all four will count on the 18th. The Open on Monday 1 August will be the usual Fourball Betterball format. Both days competitions will be played off forward White tees.

Wednesday Scrambles:

The weekly 2 person 9 hole Scrambles resume tomorrow evening between 5.00 and 6.30 p.m. Just turn up as a pair, or on your own and we will do our best to pair you off with someone for the competition. It will be followed by the Presentation of Prizes in the Hotel Bar immediately afterwards.

Regards in golf,

John Horan,

Hon Secretary
