Wednesday's semi open had some spectacular scoring and was won by Barry Cramer playing off 16 (not any more) with a great score of 47 pts. Well done Barry. Mick Curran was second with a great 44 pts and Seamus McGrath was third with 41 pts.
Tulfarris begins its defence of the Brennan Cup title with a first round outing against Kilkenny on next Sunday 20 June. All matches are "away" in Kilkenny and the tee-off times begin at 3.00 p.m. Assistant Team Manager Paul Fitzpatrick has said that as much support as possible would be welcomed on the day. Best wishes to Paul and the team.
Peter Pedersen continues to develop the Clubs website www.tulfarrisgolfclub.ie and has added a new section on the "Current News" page for archives of these Updates. The website has a wealth of information on club activities including one or two areas that are for members only. The password for these is tulfarris Our thanks go to Peter for this and all his great work on the site and to Brendan Daly for the suggestion which prompted this latest development.
Sunday Tee Times
The new Saturday option for playing non-GOY competitions seems to be proving a success. Members are reminded that in the event of the Sunday reserved Ladies tee times (9.30, 9.40 and 9.50) not being utilised by close of business on Friday these times can be used by members of the Mens Club by having their name put down on the sheet from Saturday morning onwards.
We have just heard from General Manager John Caffrey that following on from a detailed inspection of the course and the operations of the Resort in in relation to golf that Tulfarris has received the Failte Ireland Golf Standards Award and as such will be listed as a golf course of best practice on all Failte Ireland golf related marketing material. Congratulations to John and all his team.
In this regard and with the recent spurt in grass growth some areas of rough have been causing "grief" to some members and these and some other matters have been brought to the attention of the Resort. We recognise the limitations which exist in relation to staffing numbers and finances and recognise the good work that is being done and have put forward our comments in a constructive way.
I would also remind members that Adrians Bar is open for business after golf on Sundays and we would encourage as many as possible to avail of this facility.
GUI Cards/ Social Levy
Norma tells me that she still has some members new GUI cards (credited with the member's social levy) which have not yet been collected. Please check with her next time you are in the Golf Shop.
Our scrambles continue on each Wednesday - teeing off between 5.30 and 6.30 p.m. with prize presentation immediately afterwards. We look forward to seeing you there.
Presidents Prize Day
The Presidents (Tom Bryan) Prize competition takes place on Sunday 27th June. As is usual this will have a shotgun start at 9.30 a.m. so that we can all finish together and have the presentation of prizes immediately afterwards in Adrians Bar. Our thanks go to the Ladies Club for facilitating this by holding their competition on Saturday.
Regards in golf,
