Newsletter July 3rd 2011

Dear Members,

21st Anniversary Scramble:

Tulfarris was bathed in glorious sunshine all day today as Members gathered for the 21st Anniversary Scramble and lunch.

Close to 100 golfers - including virtually all the Captains and Presidents from both the Mens and Ladies Clubs over the past 21 years - took part with Les Broderick and Noel A Kelly getting all the teams off to a prompt start. Apart from the golf it was a day when many stories were told and reminiscences were shared.

The course was in immaculate condition and was the subject of much favourable comment. David Brady and his greenkeeping staff are to be congratulated on their good work. The course and the weather conditions clearly contributed to some excellent scoring.

Nearest the Pin were Jim Corley (Men) and Rita Bryan (Ladies).
Longest Drives were Liam O'Loughlin (Men), Maureen Kavanagh (Ladies) and Alan Kelly (Juniors).
In 3rd place with a score of 58 was a three person team - Liam O'Loughlin, Dave Byrne, Charlie Wynne.
In 2nd place with a score of 57 were John Hyland, Keith Turner, Pat Mahon, Noel Fannin.
The overall winners with a great score of 56.7 were Lindsay McGuire, Sheamus Dore, Noel Reilly, Alan O'Brien.

Congratulations to all the winners.

The Presentation of Prizes took place at a Buffet Lunch in the Russborough Suite which was hosted by Captains Pearse and Ann with Vice Captain Niall Robinson acting as MC. Throughout the lunch Tom O'Shea presented a running video overview of Captains Drive-Ins and Captains Days going back over many years. In addition to the usual speeches the "Father of the Club" Noel Fannin gave a very moving - yet amusing - account of his memories of 21 years of golf, friendship and fun at Tulfarris.

General Manager Mark Howell, Golf Manager Norma,  Duty Manager Hanora,  and all the staff really excelled themselves in the organisation of the day's events from early morning tea/coffee/pastries, "goody bags" for each golfer, a beautiful 21st Anniversary Cake, and really sumptious buffet served in a beautiful setting. Mark topped it all off with presentations of 21st Anniversary mementoes from the Resort to both Captains. On behalf of all the Members we extend our thanks to Mark and his team.

Here's to another 21 great years at Tulfarris.

Regards in golf,

John Horan,

Hon Secretary
