Newsletter January 6th 2012

Dear Members,

Happy New Year to you all.

As usual Tulfarris will be competing in a range of Interclub competitions in 2012. These will cover the full range of handicaps so that as many members as possible will get an opportunity to participate. As in previous years overall management of our involvement in these events will be overseen by Noel Reilly and Paul Fitzpatrick. In the near future they will be appointing individual managers for each competition and notices will be posted on the Club notice board inviting members to indicate their interest in participation in particular competitions.

One competition which has an imminent start date is the Garden County Trophy. This competition involves ten Wicklow Clubs and is played on a league basis in the months of January, Februrary and March. Tulfarris has entered this years competition and will be playing against teams such as Blessington Lakes, Coollattin and Killerig in the opening phase.

This competition can in be effect used as a "warm up" for the Barton Cup. The format is broadly similar to the Barton in which each team consists of 10 members playing foursomes matchplay. All matches are played off scratch. The combined handicap of each player "shall not be lower than 14". In order to be eligible to compete a player must have played in four qualifying competitions in 2011 and their lowest handicap for that year is the relevant one.

Noel and Paul have asked Vice Captain Noel A Kelly to manage the Barton Cup (and also the related Garden County Trophy) team for 2012 and Noel A is anxious to move quickly on this. He will have a sheet up on the notice board this weekend for interested members. As some members who might wish to become involved in this competition might not be around Tulfarris they can feel free to contact Noel A directly by email at

Lets hope this will be the beginning of a good year for Tulfarris in the Interclubs.

John Horan,

Hon Secretary
