Meeting with Receiver:
Last evening the Liaison Committee, which represents the Men's and Ladies Clubs, met with the Receiver, Dara Kelly to discuss major operational matters and arrangements for 2010 subscription payments.
Mr Kelly reported on the work being done to recover the situation following the "landslip" at the 6th hole. So far the green has not been affected and every effort is being made to maintain this position. Our Club President, Tom Bryan, and other members with professional expertise on these matters have been working with the Contractors on a no fee basis and this is greatly appreciated by all concerned. We are pleased to hear that the major drainage programme, with a budget of €85,000, will not be affected by this latest development and will continue to be implemented just as soon as the course can take the machinery involved.
In relation to the 2010 golf yeat (1 March 2010 to 28 February 2011) the subscription for the year is being held at €1,000 per member and €1,500 per couple. As last year also, it has been agreed that these amounts will be paid to an account controlled by the Club and one-twelfth will be transferred to the Resort/Receiver on a monthly basis. The effect of this will be to provide a solid protection for members contributions in these uncertain times. Given the desire all round to increase the number of Lady members in the Club a special Year 1 arrangement has been agreed whereby new Lady members will be offered a 50% reduction on their fees in their first year. The effect of this will be to reduce the €1,000 to €500 for a new Lady member and where she is part of a couple the fee for the couple be €1,250 in her first year as a member.
Those members who attended the AGM will recall that the Receiver was proposing the introduction of a €200 Social Levy per member (€300 per couple) payable in advance towards members purchase of food and beverage for the year ahead. The aim was to generate additional revenue for the Resort and at the same time to encourage members to use the facilities more and to increase the "social" aspect in the Club. Having considered the matter in great detail and following extensive discussions with the Receiver the following has now been agreed in this regard. The Social Levy will be €100 per individual or €150 per couple and will be payable to the Resort at the beginning of the year. This amount can be recovered throughout the year as payment for food, beverage, accommodation, green fees and golf shop purchases. The existing 10% discount on food and beverage purchases by members and the normal reduction for green fees for members guests will continue to apply. The Committee feels that the above is a reasonable compromise in all the circumstances and is one which we trust will have the desired effects for the Resort and the
Golf Club. In this regard also it is the intention of the Clubs to organise more social activities for members in the year ahead.
The Resort will probably issue invoices for membership fees and social levies in early February.
At last nights Committee Meeting the following were among the matters discussed.
At the commencement of the proceedings condolences were expressed to the families of the late Larry Kinsella and Maeve Hayes and to Joe Gardner and Albert Crowley and their families on the deaths of their mothers.
It was decided that the funds generated at our Valentines Scramble on Sunday 14 February would be donated to the relief of distress and the rebuilding of Haiti.
It was also decided that for the coming golf year, starting with a trial period in March, that rather than have a "Sunday" competition we will have a "Weekend" competition.
The precise arrangements for this will be communicated to members closer to that time but in essence it will mean that members can play in the Club competition during Members tee times on either the Saturday or Sunday mornings. This arrangement will not be available for the Golfer of the Year (GOY) events which will be Sunday only.
