Newsletter February 16th 2011

Dear Members,

Valentine Scramble

We had a good turn out of members on Sunday for the annual Valentine Scramble. The weather was pleasant and an enjoyable day was had by all. Congratulations to the overall winners led by President, Tom Bryan who was ably assisted by Noel A Kelly, Stephen Cullen and Ciaran O'Meara. They obviously played some really good golf, amassing no less than 8 birdies in the 14 hole competition.

Social Levy

I understand that a small number of members have not spent all of their 2010 social levy payments as yet. These amounts were due to be spent no later than the end of the current membership year on 28 February 2011 - otherwise you would lose them. These levy amounts can be used to pay for purchases of food, beverages, accommodation, green fees and golf shop merchandise at Tulfarris. Given that the weather has impacted on our golfing opportunities in the past couple of months Resort management has agreed that this cut-off date can be extended to 31 March 2011. So the message is clear "use it or lose it".

In this regard we should acknowledge again Management's gesture in making available credit of €100 per member (€150 per couple) for the coming year without any payment from members. These amounts will be credited to your membership cards when you renew for 2011. Renewal letters will issue from the Resort in coming weeks.

All Ireland Fourball Trophy

The Irish Mail sponsor this fourball event of which the semi finals and finals are played at Carton House in September. It is open to each Club to decide on how they will select a pair of golfers to represent them in this competition. At last night's Committee meeting it was agreed that the opportunity to represent the Club in this competition would be given to the winners of last year's doubles matchplay. So Phelim Dolan and Ciaran Curley will fly the flag for Tulfarris this year and we wish them all the best for the event.

On-line Booking of Tee-times

I understand that there has been a good response from members registering for this new facility. For those of you who haven't yet done so I can tell you that it is very straightforward. Simply click here and follow the instructions there. If you have any difficulty with this please give Norma a call in the Golf Shop and she will get you sorted.

Saturday Morning Tee-times

As of now Club members have the first tee reserved on Saturday mornings from dawn until 9.30 a.m. Occasionally these slots are not all utilised by members and it has been agreed that any tee-times not booked by 10.00 a.m. on the Friday morning will be made available for bookings by the Resort also. This new arrangement will be kept under review as the golfing season gets busier.

Captains Drive In

The weekly Winter League competitions continue until the end of February. The Captains Drive In which will be followed by a scramble competition and buffet afterwards takes place on SUNDAY 13 MARCH. As this is the "throw in" for the 2011 golfing season we would hope to see as many of you as possible on that day.

Regards in golf,

John Horan,

Hon Secretary
