Dear Members,

The Ladies Club had the second round of the Lady Captains Prize competition today and Ann tells me that the results were as follows:
1st Prize    Ita McCarron (35) 59pts
2nd Prize   Maria Carvill (32) 56pts
3rd Prize    Madeleine Drew Byrne (29) 51pts
Day 1 Prize: Patricia Gibson (28) 27pts
Day 2 Prize: Frances Lambe (13) 28pts
Past Captains: Catherine O Mahony (27) 48pts
Nearest the Pin: Frances Lambe
Longest Drive: Olive Whelan

Congratulations to all of these ladies and to all who took part and thankfully the weather stayed kind for both days. The Resort Management kindly provided a Burger Break at the 10th tee and I understand these were very much appreciated by the Ladies Club. Thanks Mark.

The official results of the first round of the Men's Club Captains Prize competition will be posted on the website in coming days and starting times for next Saturday will be posted also on the online booking system just as soon as they are finalised.

In the meantime I can tell you (on a strictly interim and very much unofficial basis) that the lead is held by John Hyland and Tony Galvin with excellent scores of 70. Captain Pearse was delighted with the strongly packed leader board where only two shots separate the first 11 players and whose handicaps range from 5 to 16. In fact there are no less than a total of 28 players within five shots of the lead with their handicaps ranging from 5 to 24. It's all to play for in round 2.

Purely as an indication - and very much subject to verification of results by the Competition Secretary - I can tell you that the following would seem to be the approximate starting times for the next round on Saturday 13 August - just in case you want to plan your Friday night arrangements!
7.00 - 8.00  Players who did not play in round 1, or had Non-Returns today, or who had more than 87 nett
8.00 - 9.00   Players with scores of 84 to 87
9.00 - 10.00  Players with scores of 79 to 84
10.00 - 11.00 Players with scores of 75 to 79
11.00 - 12.00 Players with scores of 72 to 75
12.00 -12.30Players with scores of 70 to 72

In these regards it is important that you let the Competition Secretary Les Broderick (087 2571608 or email ) if you wish to play next week for the first time. It is equally important that you let him know if you are not playing so that your scheduled playing partners for next week do not end up in a two-ball.

Well done Pearse on your course setup which certainly delivered your desired result to keep as many people as possible in the hunt for round 2. Here's hoping for another pleasant weather day next Saturday.

The Captains Dinner is on Saturday evening (7.30 for 8.00) and tickets are available from Norma in the Golf Shop.

Finally, just a reminder that the 2 person Scramble takes place on Wednesday evening.

Regards in golf,

John Horan,

Hon Secretary
