Newsletter April 17th 2011

Dear Members,

Tulfarris teams were in action in two Interclub competitions this weekend. Tulfarris were drawn to play Newbridge in the first round of the Provincial Towns competition yesterday. The following is the report from Team Manager, Niall Robinson.

"Unfortunately we came up fractionally short on the day: 5-3 with 1 match called in at 1up after 15 holes in Tulfarris.

The team was:
In Tulfarris - James Mc Carron, Eoin Curley, John Curley, Myles Burke
In Newbridge - Kieron Ryan, Pearse Daly, Seamus Mc Grath, Ronnie Carroll, Jerry Lambe.

In Tulfarris 2 matches won 8/7; 1 match won 7/6; 1 called in.
In Newbridge 1 match lost on 19th, 2 on 17th, 1 on 16th, 1 on 15th.

4 players making their Tulfarris interclub debuts- Eoin Curley, Kieron Ryan, Seamus Mc Grath, Ronnie Carroll.

Key match was Ronnie Carroll's. He was 1 down after 16 - won 17 with a birdie. On 18 both putting for birdies Newbridge from c20ft - left 4ft beyond hole. Ronnie 10 ft putt which hit hole but did'nt drop. Hole halved. Ronnie lost 1st sudden death hole to a solid par.

Overall, I believe it was a very solid performance which may have been very different with a bit of luck or on another day same performance could have got us over the line.Overall, I was very happy with the team effort against a team who won this event in 2008."

Tulfarris were also in action at the Lisheen Trophy competition in South County Golf Club today, in a field of 13 teams.

Noel Kelly, Team Manager tells me that "following good effort and preparation for the Lisheen Trophy and the time taken to practice in South County GC and following specific team practice at Tulfarris the team selected to represent Tulfarris was:

Paul Reid; Charlie Magee; Ciaran O'Meara; Kevin McDonald; Dave Byrne."

Unfortunately, Tulfarris did not make it into the winners enclosure on this occasion. Hazel Grove came out on top ahead of last year's winners Blessington Lakes Golf Club."

The Blessington Lakes guys told Noel that their Barton Cup team had just beaten Baltinglass and would now be playing Tulfarris in the next round. A "local derby" to look forward to there!

So, no successes to report this weekend - but that's golf. Well done to Niall and Noel and to all their players on turning out and doing their best for their club.

At home I can tell you that the draws for the Club Singles and Doubles Matchplay competitions for 2011 have been done and are posted on the Club website If you need a password to access this part of the site it is tulfarris. Have a look and get in touch with your opponent(s) and best of luck to you all.

Finally, a reminder that there are still lines available for Tulfarris Opens on the next two Sundays and the two Bank Holiday Mondays. So book online via or give the Golf Shop a call.
