Newsletter September 25th 2014

Dear Members,

Captain's Charity Day

Captain Les Broderick was pleased with the support shown for his recent (20 September) fundraising day for local charities.

The amount raised was just over €3,000.00. This will all go to "KARE" and "Coimin Day Care
Centre", as all the prizes were sponsored and will not have to come out of the monies raised. Les sends his thanks to all the members who played and also supported the event.

The results on the day were:

Winners: David Henry, David Kilmartin, Frank Higgins, Gerry Bourke.  96 points

Second:John Curley, Mary Curley, Ciaran Curley, Catherine Hayes. 95 points

Third: Steven Byrne, Pat Mahon, Paul Reid, Pat Reid. 94 points

Fourth: John Horan, Ann Horan, Dara Kennedy, Rosemary Kennedy. 93 points.

Well done to Les for his work on this very worthwhile venture.

Club Matchplays

The 2014 Tulfarris Club Matchplay Competitions have now been completed and congratulations go to the winners:

All- Ireland Captains Prizewinners Competition

The winner of the Tulfarris Captains Prize competition, Shemus Dore, travelled to Roscrea for the
All-Ireland competition on 19 September and after only two holes of his round he, and all the other competitors, were 'called in' as the course had become unplayable due to a deluge of rain.

The competition has been re-scheduled now for 3 October and we again send our best wishes to Shemus for that.

Cock of the Walk

This annual competition was played also on 19 September (by contrast to Roscrea in pleasant weather conditions!) at Woodenbridge. There were 17 Wicklow clubs involved with each one
represented by their Captain and 5 Past Captains.

The Tulfarris team of 3 pairs playing Foursomes golf was Les Broderick and Brendan Daly, Pearse Daly and Jerry Lambe and Niall Robinson and John Horan. The best two scores from each
club counted and the winners on the day were Arklow with 128.5 pts (13.5 under par) with Kilcoole beaten on countback into 2nd place. Tulfarris were 3rd with 130 points (12 under par). Great golf we thought, but not quite good enough on the day!

 Lakeside Challenge Cup

This annual competition is played against our nearest neighbours Blessington Lakes and they
host this year's event. The Tulfarris team is made up of those three golfers who are leading their categories in the Golfer of the Year table (and are available on the day) together with one other Captain's 'pick' in each of the three categories. The Captain and Vice Captain are also 'automatic picks' each year.

Having checked the GOY table and then each players availability for the day (4 October) the team
announced by the Captain is:

Captain Les Broderick and Vice Captain Ciaran Curley

Cat. 1: Dara Kennedy, Stephen Cullen, Mick Curran, Shay McGrath

Cat. 2: Darren Ash, Robbie Nagle, Brian Nolan, Paul Reid

Cat. 3: Tom O'Shea, Stephen McCormack, Derek Yeates, Eamon Devoy

The matches tee off from 1.00pm and Club colours of beige trousers, white shirt and navy jumper will be worn! Best of luck guys.

Lisheen Swap Day

This year again we have a 'Swap Day' (5 October) with the members in Lisheen Springs. As with the holidaymakers in Christy Moore's song - "We go there and they come here".

Our tee times at Lisheen are between 8:00 and 11:00 and the competition format will be fourball (any combination - 2 men, 2 ladies or mixed - as you fancy). Our BRS is open now for bookings in the normal way and then just turn up in Lisheen Springs at your pre-booked time.

2014 RT Cup

The last Interclub competition of the year - our annual match against Rathsallagh - will be played
at Rathsallagh on Saturday 11 October.

Annual General meetings

The 2014 AGMs of the
Gents and Ladies Clubs will be held after a 9.30am shotgun start day of the Winter League golf (meeting at approximately 1.00pm) on Sunday 30 November 2014 in the Conference Centre. Full details will be circulated to members closer to that date.
