The WInter League competitions tee off on Sunday 9 November and will run through to end of February. You will be automatically entered in the Singles competition but if you wish to participate in the Doubles each pair needs to get their names down on the Entry Sheet on the Notice Board in the Golf Shop - before the first round starts. There is no separate entry fee for these competitions as they are covered in your annual levies.
As Winter approaches the Greens Committee and the Course Superintendent David Brady have been considering unpleasant but unavoidable matters such as Frost Delays and so on. The following policy approach has been agreed:
" Policy in the event of frost"
With a white frost no golfer goes out until this completely clears. With black frost when the ground is completely frozen the course will be closed as this will take more than the day to clear
In the event of a frost delay the following procedure is to be followed. Green keeping staffto call a frost delay at first light ,this will be followed by an inspection within an hour or longer, if there is a severe frost inspections will take place throughout the morning until the frost has cleared. All communication will be through the pro shop, golfers are not permitted to go out onto the course to check the frost themselves, and they are not permitted to go to whatever tee box they are playing off that morning, (having golfers spread all over the course causes damages to the grass and also makes communication impossible for the proshop/GreenKeepers).
During a period of very cold weather and frost has been around for a few days a call will be made by 10 o clock whether to open or close the course. The driving range will be open for play off the matts, the putting and chipping greens will remain “CLOSED” until the frost has cleared. In the event of fog golf cannot be played until the bunker on the right of the 10th can be seen from the tee box, and the 2nd green can be seen from the tee box".
Shemus Dore sponsored and organised a new competition this year to acknowledge Members who were most prolific scorers of Birdies (or better) over the course of the Summer season. So after hundreds of Birdies and Eagles Shemus tells us that the winners were:
Category 1 (h/c 0-11) Stephen Cullen
Category 2 (h/c 12-18) Alan Satelle
Category 3 (h/c19-28) Eamon Devoy
Congratulations to the Kings and many thanks to Shemus for this initiative which has been a good talking point over the Summer.
Tulfarris Member (and 2014 Cat 1 Birdie King) Stephen Cullen got through to the televised stages of the 2014 Trilby Tour at Hollins Hill some weeks ago and this event will be featured this coming Monday (Bank Holiday) on Sky Sports 4 at 7.00pm. Should be worth a look if only to see how the amateurs perform under the pressure of TV cameras and so on.
Noel Kelly organises the Elder Lemons (55+) Society for Tulfarris members (and guests) and they play in Tulfarris every Tuesday morning.
The battle for Christmas Turkeys has already commenced.
Following a successful day out a couple of months ago, Noel has arranged another Away outing to Faithlegg on Tuesday 4 November - Tulfarris members use their reciprocal Free Green Fee arrangement and a special rate of €15 has been negotiated for guests.
If you qualify for membership of this prestigious group and wish to get involved, Noel would be delighted to hear from you on 087 2351644 or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org
Congratulations to all this year's Monthly Medal winners - Rob Nagle, Dara Kennedy, Eoin Curley, Stephen McCormack, Peter Dempsey, Fergal Quinn and Paul Reid. They all participated in the Gold Medal competition in tough conditions on Saturday and the winner with a score of 74 was Rob Nagle. Well done Rob.
