Dear Members,

RT CUP 2014

You may recall that last year's RT Cup annual match between Rathsallagh and Tulfarris was postponed until earlier this year and that Tulfarris won back the trophy which was lost to Rathsallagh in 2012. The competition was inaugurated in 2000 and the Tulfarris name appears as winners of the cup on 9 of the last 15 years.

The 2014 event was held today at Rathsallagh Golf Club and Tulfarris was represented by 5 pairs playing Fourball Betterball format. The team was Captain Les Broderick and Vice-Captain Ciaran Curley, Pearse Daly and John Horan, Ronnie Carroll and Paul Fitzpatrick, Mark Reilly and Shemus Dore and John McCarthy and John Curley.

As usual the game was played in the appropriate convivial yet competitive spirit and Rathsallagh were excellent hosts. On this occasion again Tulfarris came out on the right side of a close 3/2 result leaving Les with the 'claim to fame' of being the only Captain to be presented with the Cup twice in his year in office. Congratulations to everyone involved today.

The GUI has written to clubs and says that: "One of the hot topics in golf at the moment is pace of play. Pace of play is affected by many factors, including player ability and behaviour, management practices and course difficulty and set-up. Many commentators argue that golf nowadays takes too long, that slow round times are driving people away from the game and that something needs to be done. Conversely, others would say that golf is not a race, that not everyone wants to play in a hurry and that some courses are just not capable of being played in under four hours".

The R&A is interested to hear the views from golfers around the world on this issue and has compiled a survey with this in mind. The survey can be found at -

Golf has opened the voting for Ireland's top 50 Parkland courses for 2014. Voting will remain open until 5pm Wednesday the 15th of October and members now have the chance to have your say - perhaps and win great prizes for you and also for Tulfarris Golf Club.

Last year Tulfarris was rated as No. 37 in the Top 50 list so if you think it should be rated closer to the top No 1 you can have your say by voting now at
