Newsletter May 18th 2012

Dear Members,

At this week's Committee Meeting I was asked to remind Members of the impending closing dates for the current rounds of the Club Singles and Doubles Matchplay Competitions. For the Singles event it is this Sunday 20 May and for the Doubles it is Wednesday 30 May. The competition rules which were proposed and accepted by Members at the last AGM can be seen on the website and some key ones in this regard are as follows:
* If a match has not been played before the completion date for the round, players must then be at the course and registered with the pro-shop by     3:00pm on the given date.
* Failure to do so, will exclude the players from further rounds.
* Competition Secretary's decision is final, where any match does not take place at these times.

There are still a number of matches which have not been played - or perhaps they have been played and the winners have not notified Peter Pedersen as they are required to do. If you are in this latter category please send an email straightaway to peter.pedersen@email.com to avoid your exclusion from the competition. There have been criticisms in previous years about non-adherence to closing dates and the members were adamant that this year this aspect should be "tightened up".

While we are on the question of outstanding matters the Treasurer tells me that a small number of Members who have paid their Annual Subscriptions have neglected or forgotten to pay their Club levies. If you are one of these please do so not later than this weekend following which non-payers will be deleted from the Clubs database and will lose their GUI affiliation also.

On your next visit to Tulfarris you will find that the Computer Screen for Competition Sign-in and Score Entry has a new home. You will find it to your left as you enter the first set of double doors - just turn left before you enter the Golf Shop. This new location will facilitate golfers finishing competitions after the Shop has closed.

Similarly, when you drive into Tulfarris you will see significant progress on the construction of the Driving Bays for the new Tulfarris Golf Academy. This area should be up and running one week from now under the direction of Tulfarris' new PGA Pro Thomas O'Neill. It is good to have Thomas on board - as the many Members who have availed of his services elsewhere will readily attest.

Our next Open Competitions are on Sunday 3 and Monday 4 June. We also have a Semi Open on the afternoon of Wednesday 13 June. These are good opportunities for Members to "show off" their course to their friends.

Finally good luck to the Pierce Purcell panel for their first outing in the Regional Qualifiers at Slade Valley tomorrow afternoon under Team Managers Kieron Ryan and Stephen Cullen.

Regards,

John Horan,

Hon Secretary
