We are right into the Interclub season now and the following is a quick run through some current competitions.
We had our second round match versus Druids Heath yesterday and came up against a very strong team, fresh from their clear cut winning of this year's Garden County Trophy.
Tulfarris was represented by Brendan Daly and Myles Burke, Ronnie Carroll and Shemus Dore and Ciaran and John Curley in Tulfarris, with Liam O'Loughlin and Eoin Curley and Stephen Cullen and Seamus McGrath flying the flag for us Away. Les Broderick "managed" matters in Druids Heath and I looked after things at Home.
Unfortunately we came out on the wrong side of a 3/2 result. Not for want of effort it has to be said so, many thanks to Les, to the team on the day and to the other panel members for their work in preparing for the matches and for representing the Club over recent months.
Thanks guys, it is appreciated.
Tulfarris will be represented by Les Broderick, Greg Edwards, John Horan and Kieron Ryan tomorrow in Greystones in the GUI Leinster Golf Captains and Club Officials 2014 competition.
Tulfarris are through to the second round of the Provincial Towns Cup next Friday (16th) against Woodenbridge - Home and Away- at 4.30pm.
Best of luck to Team Manager, Niall Robinson and his panel of players.
Niall would welcome all support (or caddies) from other Club members.
Pierce Purcell Shield
Shemus Dore and his panel have been busily preparing for their first outing in the Regional Qualifiers in Gowran Golf Club on Saturday 17th at 1.30pm and Shemus says that any support from Club members would be most welcome. Here's hoping they can finish in the top four clubs on the day and progress to the Regional Semi Finals and Final - also in
Gowran- on Sunday 18th.
Team Manager Brendan Daly will have his team all set to go in Blainroe on Sunday 18th for their first round match. Good wishes go to them also for a successful outcome there.
The Captains, Les and Maria, are in the process of organising a 'mixed' team to go to Charlesland for the first round of the Cullen Cup on Saturday 24th. Best of luck to everyone involved.
After their good win over Carlow last week, the South Leinster panel will be in action again at 3.00pm on Sunday 25th against Borris. Team Managers John Britton and Tom O'Shea would welcome support at Home and Away on the day.
Other Interclub Competitions
Slightly further out Tulfarris still has the Junior Cup Qualifier (Manager James McCarron) in Wicklow GC on 7 June and the Jimmy Bruen Cup Qualifier (Manager Greg Edwards) in Millicent on 14 June. In addition to these the Ladies Club move on to play Tramore in the second round of the Challenge Cup. The neutral venue and date will known on Tuesday.
Tulfarris GC does not have a team involved directly in the Barton Shield. This prestigious competition is for GUI members, playing off scratch, and Tulfarris was honoured to be asked last year by the GUI to 'host' this year's Provincial Qualifying. This takes place over the weekend of 24 and 25 May. It will be good to see how some of the best amateur players deal with the golfing challenges that we contend with in Tulfarris on a weekly basis.
It was clearly understood at that time last year, and was communicated to members then also, that this would cause some disruption to our own playing times that weekend and this will be reflected on the BRS system.
On Saturday 24th our Club competition (Singles Strokes) times will be
07.00 to 07.30 and 10.30 to 11.00 and on Sunday 25th from 07.00 to
08.00 and 09.30 to 13.00.
Club Mixed Matchplay Competition
The draw for this event took place after golf today in Tulfarris and the programme and pairings have been posted on the Notice Board and - thanks to Peter Pedersen - will be on the Club website also. The format will be Foursomes (Captain Les commented that if things are not going well it might change to 'Divorcesomes'), with the handicap allowance being half of the difference between each pair's combined handicaps. Round 1 to be played by 22 June.
Singles and Double Matchplays
The opening rounds of these events are well underway and in order to ensure that the timetables are adhered to Members are encouraged to get their matches completed at the earliest possible dates. Please ensure also that your 'wins' are notified promptly to firstname.lastname@example.org
Members' Club Discounts
Resort Management has asked us to remind all members again that they need to present their GUI card to get their members 20% discounts in the Bar and Restaurant. There are some new staff and they don't know all members so this must happen in order to get discount. It has also to be pointed out that if you leave and don't get your discount then it cannot be applied at a later date.
Regards, John Horan, Hon Secretary
