Following a slight frost delay the season came to life on a beautiful day where over 80 members took part in the Captain's Drive In Scramble.
Lady Captain Mary and Captain Ciaran arrived in style and duly kicked off the day's social golf with the customary swipe from the first tee. The course maintenance work performed by David Brady and his team in recent months was very apparent today and complimented by many. The winners on the day were:
1st Place: P. Whelan, R Cowley, D Ash & P Hartigan - 59.3
2nd Place: K Higgins, J Devereux, J Carty & O Whelan - 60.2
3rd Place: D Litton, M McGrath, L Kelly and D Sexton - 60.5
A lovely meal organised by the resort staff followed in the Lime Tree after which both Captain's warmly welcomed both existing and new members as well as family & guests including the captain's from Blessington Lakes, Paul and Helen.
Mary expressed the honour and appreciation in being Lady Captain and thanked her committee for their support so far. Mary also mentioned the continued growth of the ladies club and the continued focus on growing our interclub representation. To this end, the Ladies club will participate in both the Challenge, Minor and Cullen cups this year.
Ciaran spoke to some of the same themes and encouraged all new members to consider putting themselves forward for interclub golf which will be commencing in earnest now with the Provincial Towns next Sunday. Ciaran also thanked all team managers for making themselves available for club duty which is as always much appreciated.
We are all looking forward to a great year of golf.
