Newsletter March 1st 2016

Dear Members,

Just a few updates today as the new season approaches.

Valentines Scramble:

We had a good turnout for the first scramble of the year despite the wintry weather conditions. A very enjoyable day was had by the members, where the excellent course condition and lovely lunch was noted by Vice Captain Mark Reilly.  Results on the day were as follows. Well done to all the winners.

3rd with 45.4: Catherine Edgeworth, Kevin O 'Connor, Vincent Cronin, James McCarron

2nd with 45.2:  Kevin Higgins, Mary Curley, Noel Reilly, Pat McCarton

1st with 43.6: Rosaleen Prescott, John Britton, Darryl Litton, Pat Edgeworth

Winter League:

We have our first winners of the year.

John Devereux just edged Enda Daly by a solitary point to take the singles title and Mick O'Toole & Paddy Carthy were victorious in the doubles. Well done to you all.

In the last bulletin, I noted those members managing teams this year.  A meeting was held last Sunday with all managers to discuss ideas and get consensus on how we can put our best foot forward this year. It was very apparent in the room that there is a hunger and drive to be successful.

We are not a big club so building a panel can sometimes be difficult. To that end we would ask all those interested in representing their club to put their names down on the team sheets now available in the pro-shop.

Details of eligibility for these competitions can be found on the team sheets and on the club website

From a men's club perspective, here are the team contacts for each event:

Liam O'Loughlin (0868153999) : Garden County and Barton Cup

Stephen Cullen (0879654490): Junior Cup

Brendan Daly (0879886000): Brennan Cup

Tom O'Shea (0872656166): Pierce Purcell

Noel Kelly (0872351644): South Leinster

Kevin McDonald (0874158619): All Ireland Fourball

Shemus Dore (0863441063) /Mark Reilly (0868597854): Central Towns

I would like to draw particular attention to the one new event entered this year - The Irish Mixed Foursomes. We have been expanding the club's efforts in mixed golf competition in recent years and this is another opportunity to move forward. The minimum combined handicap is 19 and the maximum combined is 27. The team sheet is up in the pro-shop and we would welcome some new faces from both the ladies and gents' clubs. With the first round scheduled for mid April the deadline for expressions of interest is the 20th March.

Garden County:

The panel have played two matches and we are in with a fighting chance of making the final. There are 2 league matches remaining this weekend where a good result on Saturday against Baltinglass would set us up for an exciting finish against Lisheen Springs the following day.

The team representing Tulfarris this Saturday morning are:

Kevin Higgins & James McCarron : John Curley & Shea McGrath

Mick Curran & Jay Curley: Darryl Litton & Eoin Curley

Liam O'Loughlin & Niall Robinson: Stephen Cullen & Lenny Murphy

Irish Open:

One of the exciting developments this year is that Dubai Duty Free is offering clubs around Ireland the opportunity to compete to play in the pro-am at the Irish Open. Tulfarris have entered the competition and both committees have decided that the qualifying events for our nominations will be the April Medal and Lady GOY Strokes scheduled for the 9th/10th April. Juniors are eligible to enter to represent the club.

Simply put the winner of both the April Medal and Lady GOY Strokes will represent the club in the regional qualifiers. More details can be found at:

Golf Digest Volvo Open:

The resort are once again hosting this event  on the 13th May 2016with a variety of wonderful prizes on offer and a chance to go through to the grand final in October.

More details and booking available on

Date for the Diary:

The Captain's Drive-In takes place on Sunday 13th March. The system goes live for registration next weekend and we welcome all our members to join us in a fun day's golf.

Rumour has it that no Captain has ever topped his drive into the lake by the third!

Kind Regards

Shemus Dore
