Newsletter March 15th 2014

Dear Members,

Today was the final match in the league/round robin "East Wicklow" section of the Garden County Trophy competition. Tulfarris took on our neighbours Blessington Lakes with the clear winner destined to go to play the "West Wicklow" section winners in the Final on 29 March.

The Tulfarris team was:

At HOME in Tulfarris

Liam O Loughlin (5) Eoin Curley (9)

Mick Curran (6) James McCarron (9)

Brendan Daly (4) Myles Burke (11)

AWAY in Blessington Lakes

Stephen Cullen (6) Seamus McGrath (8)

Kevin Higgins (6) Niall Robinson(8)

Ciaran Curley (7) John Curley (7)

Unfortunately there was no clear winner - the result was 3 all. This meant that 3 Clubs finished the section on the same points: Tulfarris, Blessington Lakes and Lisheen Springs. The competition rules do provide for a tie and set down 4 criteria to be used to decide the final league placing.

1. Most wins

All three Clubs had the same number of wins 2. Most wins away from home Blessington Lakes had no wins away and Tulfarris and Lisheen Springs had 1 each. This eliminated Blessington Lakes 3. Result against the other Club Tulfarris and Lisheen Springs had drawn our particular match previously - 3 all 4. Toss of coin Having discussed the matter among our panel and then with Lisheen Springs representatives it was agreed that neither Club would like to go out of the competition on the toss of a coin. So before we get to that stage we have decided to have a rematch between Tulfarris and Lisheen Springs on Saturday next 22 March.

We live to fight another day!

Well done to the Tulfarris team (and other panel members) for getting us this far and keeping us in the competition. Thanks to them and also to David Brady and his greenkeeping staff for their excellent presentation of the Course which played very well despite the essential "hollow coring" work carried out earlier in the week. The course was the subject of much favourable comment from our visitors.

Thanks also to Norma and to the Restaurant staff for looking after us all in their usual professional manner.

On a separate note John Britton tells me that the Elder Lemons (ELS) had another successful outing on Tuesday and will be there each Tuesday from now on at 10 a.m. for 10.30 tee off. It has been decided to expand the group to include any Lady Members (55+) who wish to get involved from Tuesday onwards. Just turn up on the day and you will be made most welcome.
