Captains Drive In
Captains Niall and Dorette were blessed with pleasant weather for their drive-in this morning. Both got their drives well away and the combined length of the drives was 390 yards which won a prize for Derek Yeates who guessed this distance correctly in the Member's sweepstake on the predicted length.
The Longest Drive was won by Marion Riordan and the Lady Captain herself hit her tee shot on 11 to 1.37 metres from the pin to win Nearest the Pin.
The competition itself was a Las Vegas Scramble (suffice to say it involved the rolling of a dice on every hole to select the drive to be used). The consensus view was that this added to the "fun" element of what turned out to be a very enjoyable day for all involved.
Despite the added difficulty from the unpredictability of the dice, the scores were good with the following results:
3rd Place(59.5) Jim O'Neill, Paul Reid, Darren Ash, John Britton
2nd Place (58.8) Liam O'Loughlin, Mark Reilly, John MacGregor
1st Place(58.7) Jerry Lambe, Charlie McGee, Peter Byrne and Mary Curley
Congratulations to all the winners and well done to Niall, Dorette and everyone involved in the organisation of the event. Special thanks are due to David Brady and his staff for the excellent condition of the course - favourably commented on especially by our visitors, to Norma in the Golf Shop and to Derek and his staff in the Restaurant for the enjoyable lunch which followed the golf.
I have been asked by a number of Managers of Interclub Panels - particularly Pierse Purcell and South Leinster - to encourage Members to put their names down on the sheets provided in the Club House. Pierse Purcell involves players whose handicap was not less than 12 in 2011, playing foursomes golf where the combined handicaps of each pair must be 27 or greater. South Leinster is for 16 handicap upwards. Your Club needs you.
Competition Secretary Les Broderick will be doing the draws in the near future for the Club Singes and Doubles Matchplays. So if you wish to play get your name down on the lists in the Club House without further delay.
Irish Daily Mail All Ireland Foursomes Competition
Tulfarris is represented in the this competition by last year's Club Doubles Champions - Steven Byrne and Paul Reid. I am delighted to report that they have won their first round match 2 and 1 away to Bodenstown. Well done lads and best of luck in the next round.
