Newsletter June 8th 2016

Dear Members,

This evening the Summer Social Scrambles got off to a great start with over 50 golfers taking part in ideal golfing conditions.

There was a lot of good golf played with no less than 11 pairs returning scores of 30 or lower.

The golf was followed by a finger-food reception kindly hosted by Resort General Manager Mark Howell and the presentation of prizes. We were delighted to be joined for the golf this evening by the Marketing Manager and the Chief Executive of the Prem Group, Phil Sweeney and Jim Murphy - the new owners of Tulfarris.

Jim presented the prizes (sponsored by the Prem Group) and then addressed the Members on their plans for Tulfarris - immediate and long-term. Some new work on the course and the areas surrounding the hotel can be seen already. Some new course maintenance machinery is on the way as is an increase in green-keeping staff. He said an action plan has been agreed with Mark and that the necessary resources would be made available to implement it. He also took on a question and answer session at which some Members presented their own thoughts and ideas on the proposals. All in all a useful session.

The Captain, Kieron Ryan, concluded the evening with his own thoughts and on behalf of the club thanked Mark for his hospitality and thanked Phil and Jim for being with us and for sharing their thinking on the future development of the Resort.

And so to the results:

The Best Gross for each of the last two years has been won with 30 points and the bar has been set high already for 2016 with Brendan Daly and Mick Curran recording a great score of 31 points. Well done lads. Now the rest of you big-hitters know what you have to do!

In 3rd place this evening with a net score (on Countback) of 28.6 and striking a blow for the 'elder lemons' were Noel Kelly and Frank Lewis.

In 2nd place with 26.8 were Vincent and Mary Cronin. A great performance as this was Mary's first competitive round in Tulfarris!

The winners had a very tidy gross score of 33 giving them a net score of 26.4. Well done to John and Mary Curley who have now set the bar for the Best Net for 2016. Can any of you beat that in coming weeks?

So, same times - 4 to 6pm - next week.

See you then.

John & Ann Horan
