Newsletter July 6th 2016

Dear Members,

There is plenty happening on a golfing front as the busy summer season is now upon us. Below is an update on some recent events and also some upcoming dates for your diary.

Rumble for Crumlin - Sunday 10 July

For the last number of years we have supported this worthy cause and as a club we've raised nearly €3,000 in the four years that we've supported this charity.

It is a rumble format and can be any combination of players / handicaps. It is one stableford score to count on the first 6, two stableford scores to count on the second 6 holes and all three stableford scores to count on the final 6 holes.

The winning team on the day goes to play in the Irish National final at Woodbrook GC on 15th September. A good showing there can get you into the International Final at Hoylake Golf Club on the 14 / 15 October.

It is €10 per person (€30 per team) on Sunday or alternatively if you cannot make it on Sunday and would like to make a donation to this worthy cause then you can sponsor a tee box or a green on the day for €20 per tee box or €20 per green. If you would like to do this can you contact myself at or the Captain at and let us know which tee box or green you would like to sponsor. You can leave your donation in the safe in the pro-shop or alternatively give this to a member of the Men's or Ladie's Committees.

Interclub Fundraiser Friday 22 July

On Friday 22nd July we'll hold an 18 hole Semi-Open Champagne Scramble. This year the club has thankfully had an extended run in a number of interclub competitions but this brings its own financial pressures and a good turnout for the Semi-Open will help defray some of these costs.

Tee times will be available from 1pm to 5pm and a line will cost €60 for 4 players. The competition format will be the usual scramble for the drive where all four players move to the best position, but from there on all four players finish out each hole with their own ball. It will be the best two scores to count on each hole. This is a good opportunity for all of us to show off our course to family, friends, colleagues or clients.

Should any member wish to consider any form of sponsorship, please feel free to reach out to any member of the Committee to discuss this further.

Interclub News

Brennan Cup Match v Woodbrook (away)

The Brennan Cup team played their second match in this year's competition and I'm pleased to report that yet again Tulfarris prevailed in a tough away match to Woodbrook. Team manager Brendan Daly was on holidays so Paul Fitzpatrick deputised for Brendan on the day and provided me with the following summary.

A  fantastic  victory  on  Sunday  for  Tulfarris  away  to  Woodbrook  in  the  Brennan  Cup. Having  beaten  Woodenbridge  away in  the  previous  round it  was  going  to  be  a  very  tough  assignment  to  overcome  such  a  strong  team  with  such  a  large  membership. But  once  again, Tulfarris  rose  to  the  challenge. The  work  and  effort  that  Brendan  and  his  panel  have  put  in  during  this  campaign  paid  off  handsomely.

The  team  spirit  displayed  on  the  day  was  exemplary  and  crucial  to  our  victory. In  the  face  of  fierce  opposition, (in  every  sense  of  the  word !!! )  the  Tulfarris  team  showed  a  steely  resolve  which  brought  us  over  the  line. They  should  be  all  very  proud  of  their  achievement. I  don`t  want  to  single  anybody  out, but  it  is  always  important  to  get  off  to  a  good  start and  Lenny  and  Mark  ensured  that  with  a  great  win  in  the  opening  match. That  feelgood  factor  spread  through  the  team  and  was  the  catalyst  for  a  famous  win.

Congratulations  to  everyone.

The  Tulfarris  team  was :   Lenny  Murphy  and  Mark  Walshe,  Paul  Murphy  and  Denis  Mahon,  John  Curley  and  Tom  Browne,  Mick  Curran  and  James McCarron,  Ciaran  Curley  and  Phelim  Dolan.

Roll  on  the  semi - final  !!!

Paul  Fitzpatrick

I have heard that our next match in this year's Brennan Cup will be at home to Delgany GC and is likely to take place in early August. Once a time and date is confirmed we'll pass on the details as I'm sure Brendan and his team would appreciate a strong showing of support on the day.

Cullen Cup Match v Old Conna (home)

The Men's and Ladies' clubs were involved in their second match of this year's Cullen Cup and I'm pleased to announce that Tulfarris came through with yet another win. Below is a summary of the match from Captain Kieron Ryan.

We had another successful day on the golf course yesterday when Tulfarris hosted Old Conna in the quarter final of the Cullen Cup.

The sun shone for us on what was to be a victorious day for our lads and lassies and a great day to be a member of Tulfarris Golf Club.

The team – to a man and woman – played with great spirit, enthusiasm and energy.

Tulfarris was represented by Niall Robinson & Frances Lambe, Kieron & Mags Ryan, Shemus Dore & Louise Lehane, Stephen Cullen & Lady Captain Lindsay Dore and finally John Field and Lady President Maria Carvill.

The match itself was played in a great spirit between the two clubs – the Old Conna team were a pleasure to play against – and most gracious in defeat.

So, on to the semi-final we march. Our opponents will be the winners between Delgany GC and Rathfarnham to be played this coming Saturday.

The semi-final will be a two leg affair, played at both home and away – to be completed by August 7th I believe.

Many thanks to those hardy members who turned out to support the team on the day – it was much appreciated.

A strong turnout of support would be most welcome for this semi-final.

Central Towns Match v Royal Curragh (home & away)

We enjoyed a good run in this year's Central Towns Trophy, but unfortunately the journey ended at the Quarter Final stage last Saturday against Royal Curragh. We enjoyed some notable successes against Palmerstown Stud and Newbridge GC in the first two rounds and our players dug deep to secure those wins.

Unfortunately we came up against a very good Royal Curragh team who were able to call upon some of their All Ireland winning Pierce Purcell team to fill some of their team slots on the day.

We're proud of the efforts put in by all the panel and thanks go to the team on the day who were at home: Darren Ash, Chris Shelley and Daniel Lawlor and away: Tom Browne and Enda Daly. Thanks also to our caddies and supporters on the day.

We'll be back to give it another go next year.

Mark Reilly & Shemus Dore

Don't forget that our Pierce Purcell team play in the Leinster Quarter Final against Kilcoole GC in Citywest GC on Sunday 10 July at 1:30pm. All support would be welcome by Tom, John and their team.

Lastly some other notable dates for your diaries:

Presidents Prize - Sunday 17 July

Bank Holiday Open - Sunday 31 July

Bank Holiday Open - Monday 01 August

Here's to a good summer of golf and hopefully our Pierce Purcell, Brennan Cup, and Cullen Cup teams go on extended runs over the course of the summer.

Kind Regards,

Mark Reilly
