Newsletter July 31st 2015

Dear Members,

Please see below some current updates from the club.

President’s Prize:

Niall Robinson’s prize took place on the 19th July with 108 members taking to the fairways. The prizegiving took place in the members bar later that same evening.

The president thanked Norma for all her help generally during the week and particularly with the new format where in previous years it had been a shotgun start. Niall also made reference to the super condition of the course on the day, a view echoed by the members and to the support David Brady gave in facilitating the course set-up. Niall made special mention of Derek and Will who pulled out all the stops to have breakfast rolls and burgers available at the Half Way House. In addition, he thanked the support of the members, Melissa and her team for continually looking after us so well in the bar.  Niall went on to wish Stephen Cullen and myself the very best of fortune in the ‘Trilby Tour’ and congratulated Stephen Byrne and Paul Reid on their exceptional progress in the All Ireland Daily Mail Foursomes.

Congratulations to all the winners on the day:

Rumble For Crumlin:

We had a fabulous turnout for this year’s event in some mixed weather conditions. Amidst the competitiveness of the event, the social spirit of the day shone through with a wonderful €950 raised for the hospital. Lady Captain Mary Curley, John Curley and Catherine Curley were worthy winners on the day and will represent Tulfarris in the Leinster Finals at the Hermitage Golf Club on the 21st September.

Birdie King:

With three months to go, the race for the coveted title is heating up. It’s all to play for – a hole in one would ruffle some feathers! The following members are leading the way in their categories:

Category 1: J Gannon & J Field

Category 2 : P Pedersen & M McGrath

Category 3: R Croft &  BTurner

The full tables will be shortly posted on the website

South Leinster:

The club’s quest for a pennant in 2015 continues with a superb 4-3 win over Naas GC last Sunday. This is the 4th win in the competition and sets-up a semi-final/ final weekend in Carlow Golf Club on the 12th and 13th September. This was as anticipated the hardest match to date with a dramatic 19th hole away win securing the tie.

Manager John Britton asked me to acknowledge the exceptional dedication of the panel, the work of Tom O’Shea, the coaching of Tom O’Neill and the great support of the members.

We hope to see as many members as possible down in Carlow to support the panel.

The team who represented Tulfarris were:

Home: Pat Mahon, Rob Nagle, Chris Shelley

Away: Enda Daly, Bryan Sweeney, Jim Carty, Colum Sweeney.

Rules Night:

We have allcome off the course wondering what the rule is on this or that…well no more…Our resident expert, club pro Tom O’Neill is ready to walk us through the main rules of golf and to answer our questions.

Rumour has it there is not a question he can’t answer correctly!
