Newsletter July 27th 2016

Dear Members,

Almost 50 golfers turned out this evening for the weekly Social Scramble in ideal golfing conditions.

The Best Gross for 2016 up to tonight was 31 and this was matched this evening by Dave Harmon and Eoin Roddy. Well done guys. However, on Countback the previous round just 'pips' them and still holds good for the season.

Dave and Eoin's Gross converted into a Net score of 27.6 which was the 2nd best on the night - but - unfortunately for them there was another 27.6 which again on Countback 'pipped' the lads to give 2nd place to Pat and Catherine Edgeworth!

The Best Net for 2016 so far has been 26.4 and this was also matched tonight but - again on Countback - the original round still held good. The winners tonight with this great score were Philip Dunne and Brian Sweeney. Congratulations to the prize winners.

We had an extra element to this week's event in that we were remembering a former member and good friend to many, Paddy Doyle. This was based on a suggestion from Brendan Daly, who also kindly supplied prizes for the occasion.

Paddy enjoyed these Social Scrambles and, despite his advanced illness, with his playing partner Steven Byrne, won the first outing in June last year. Unfortunately, Paddy passed away a very short time later on 31 August 2015. His former friends and neighbours turned out tonight and we were especially pleased to welcome his son John to the golf and presentation of prizes.

The prize winners - based on the returned cards and on criteria known only to three people, namely Brendan Daly, myself and our reliable card scrutiniser, Tom O'Shea - were Myles Burke and Pat O'Neill. In response to Brendan's request all those present 'raised their glasses' in memory of Paddy Doyle.

Finally, I was glad to note that I relieved Ann of her 'administrative' signing- in duties this evening so that she could play in the Scramble. After all it was her birthday! Happy Birthday Ann!
