Newsletter July 15th 2015

Dear Members,

Please see below the latest updates from the club.

Presidents Prize:

Major Season commences this Sunday with Niall Robinson’s President’s prize. Due to the increased playing numbers this season, it was not a viable option to follow the traditional draw/ shotgun start format.

Some details for the day:

·Tee times and groups will be per timesheet.

·Format is white tees singles stableford.

·Entry fee is €10 and €5 for juniors. Intention is to provide the food service at the halfway house. Should this change in the meantime, the starters will notify you on registration.

·Presentation of prizes will follow approximately at 1900-1930 in the members bar and will include any outstanding prizes this year.

We wish Niall Robinson and all members a wonderful day.

Hole in One:

The golf is certainly heating up this summer with no fewer than 3 holes in one over the last 6 weeks. Well done to Noel Kelly and Kay Fitzsimmons for their aces on the 6th hole and to Paddy Carthy for what I believe to be the first ace on the 11th hole in competition.

Junior Members:

Following some enquiries, I would like to highlight eligibility and fees for our juniors in men’s club competitions.

Juniors are permitted to compete in all events in the calendar with valid handicaps but are excluded from winning 1st prizes in the president’s and captain’s prizes and from participating in the golfer of the year competition.

Entry fees are 50% of the full member fees which typically amounts to €5 / event.

Irish Daily Mail Foursomes:

As Johnny Cash would say ‘The train keeps a rollin’…’ - Steven Byrne and Paul Reid have reached the quarter finals of the competition and have home advantage against Seapoint.

Interclub News:

We have mixed news today.

From Brennan Cup manager Pat Curley –

The Tulfarris team were given a warm welcome by Baltinglass golf club for our match yesterday (Sunday July12th). Despite Tulfarris playing some excellent golf in good conditions, the Baltinglass team proved too strong on the day and won three of the first four matches with the last match going down the 17th when called in. Pat thanked the Baltinglass team for their great sportsmanship and wished them every success going forward in the competition.  The Baltinglass team manager (Jim Murray) was thanked sincerely for the hospitality shown both on the course and in the clubhouse afterwards which was greatly appreciated by all.

Pat would like to thank the Tulfarris panel for their interest in practising and for a great effort on the day. The Tulfarris team was as follows :

Ciaran Curley (Captain) and Paul Fitzpatrick

Eoin Curley and Eoin Roddy

Mick Curran and James McCarron

Jay Curley and Peter Pedersen

John Curley and Myles Burke

The last club team standing is our South Leinster panel managed by John Britton.

Tulfarris had a hard won victory over a very good Knockanally team on the 29th June. Our home team won their three matches with a very gutsy performance and our away team won one and we just missed out on a second win by the tightest of margins on the 18th green.

We wish the panel the very best as they take on Naas in the quarter final. Details of the match will be shared in advance with support at this stage a key ingredient for success.

Golf Digest Volvo Open:

The resort are hosting this event tomorrow with a variety of wonderful prizes on offer and a chance to go through to the grand final in October.
