A lovely Summer evening for this week's Social Scramble. The scoring reflected the conditions with 8 pairs recording net scores below 30.0.
Some of the 'big hitters' were obviously determined to have a go for the Best Gross for 2016. Padraig Whelan (fresh from his Hole in One in the ELS outing yesterday) and his partner this evening, Dave Harmon, started with a par 5 on the 1st, had a great run of five 3's from the 2nd to the 6th and finished with three 4's for a great total of 32.
The current leaders in the Gross stakes - ever since the opening scramble - have been Brendan Daly and Mick Curran with a really great score of 31. They went out again this evening to copperfasten their position and had four 5's and five 3's (including the 9th). I am told that the 'roar' that followed the sinking of that eagle putt was on the same decibel level from Hill 16 following Stephen Cluxton's winning point!
These great feats were not good enough to get them into tonight's prizes. In 2nd place with a net score of 28.8 were father and daughter combination of Greg and Rebecca Edwards.
The winners with a score of 27.4 were husband and wife team of John and Mary Curley. This included a 1 shot reduction in their team handicap from a previous winning performance so their actual score of 26.4 was a repeat of their Best Net score a few weeks ago. This one however 'pips' their previous one 'on Countback' - on the last 3 holes with a gross score of 11.
Congratulations to them.
Same times (4 to 6pm) next week.
