Newsletter August 3rd 2012

Dear Members,

It was a lovely evening for golf for the Wednesday Scramble with some good scoring again.

Last week we had some Junior Members among the prizewinners and the same pattern emerged tonight. These guys really are getting to be good golfers!

In second place with a socre of 27.8 were Junior Members Liam Callanan and Ciaran Corrigan. They were pipped at the post by the overall winners - another Junior Jack Cullen and Club President Tom O'Shea - with a score of 27.6. Well done to all.

As Michael Caine was heard to say "Not many people know this", but Tulfarris has an interesting sub group - the ELS group. Noel Reilly is the driving force behind this group which plays about once a month at Tulfarris. The only qualification is that you have to be "over 55". The group had an outing yesterday and will have some more in the months ahead. The emphasis is on not just the golf but on the social element afterwards also. If you meet the "qualification criteria" and would like to be involved why not give Noel a call on 086 2553530.

The draw sheet for the first round of the Captain's (Niall Robinson) Prize competition to be played on Sunday 12 August will open tomorrow on the online booking system. You can enter your name for the draw which will take place on Friday 10 August after which you should check your exact tee time which will be somewhere within the hour that you initially entered for.

Good luck to Team Manager Joe Gardner and his panel in their semi final match of the Brennan Cup which takes place at 2.30 p.m. on this coming Friday 3 August in Woodbrook Golf Club. At these latter stages of interclub competitions support (particularly when teams have to play "away") is vitally important. So if you can get along to Woodbrook at some stage on Friday afternoon your support for your clubmates would be welcome.

The August Bank Holiday Opens take place on Sunday 5 and Monday 6 August and there are lots of times available.

The Golf Academy at Tulfarris is in full swing and PGA Professional Thomas O'Neill has asked me to tell you about a new initiative for Group Lessons. These will take place each Tuesday evenings from 7.30 to 8.30 p.m. The cost is €15 and represents a good value opportunity to have a keen eye cast over your game with some valuable tips for improvement.

Finally, we have four more Wednesday Scrambles from 5 to 6.00 p.m. between now and the end of August. We look forward to seeing as many Members as possible.

Hon Secretary
