Newsletter August 29th 2012

Dear Members,

Despite some not too pleasant weather conditions we had a big turn-out and good scoring this evening for the last of our Wednesday Scrambles for Summer 2012.

Last week the Resort General Manager and PGA Professional had a fantastic gross score of 29 for the 9 hole competition. This week they were matched by two "amateurs" Liam O'Loughlin and Stephen Cullen who had two 2's, three 3's and four 4's for a great gross score also of 29. Their handicap of 2.2 brought them to 26.8 which believe it or not was only good enough for second place.

The winners were father and son combination of Noel A and Conor Kelly who had no less than five 3's on their card over the nine holes. Their gross was a great 33 and their 6.8 handicap brought them to a winning net score of 26.2. This is indeed fitting as Vice Captain Noel A has put a huge amount of effort into organising the Saturday lessons for the Juniors with Thomas O'Neill. Obviously it was not just Conor who was benefiting from these sessions -  Noel A must have picked up some tips as well.

Congratulations to Liam, Stephen, Noel A and Conor.

The presentation of prizes in the Hotel bar afterwards had the added embellishment of excellent finger food laid on with the compliments of Resort Manager, Mark Howell. Thanks Mark and special thanks also to Manager Derek Bellini and to the bar staff - Chris and PJ - who looked after us so well. Many thanks must also go to Norma and Davey in the Golf Shop who are always helpful to us.

The Captain Niall Robinson spoke after the presentation and commented on the sociability of the scrambles which went ahead on all but one Wednesday evening which had to be cancelled because of an adverse weather warning. He particularly mentioned the value of these events in getting members together and in intergrating the Junior members into the Club. On behalf of the Members he presented Ann and myself with gifts to acknowledge our part in organising the scrambles. While this was not necessary it is very much appreciated by us. Thank you Captain.

A final note for the statisticians among you - the average winning score over all the summer Scrambles was 26.3.

On a different topic we send best wishes to John Curley, James McCarron and Sheamus McGrath as they go forward to represent Tulfarris in the Leinster Final of the Rumble for Crumlin competition which takes place tomorrow in the Grange Golf Club. Best wishes lads for a win and a place in the All Ireland final which takes place early next year in the Algarve.

Finally, somebody out there left their suit jacket behind them in Tulfarris on the night of the Captains Dinner. You may not have realised it because you took another Member's jacket with you - easy to do with a broadly similar colour late at night. The owner of the jacket you have would be delighted to get it back and if you want to have a matching trousers and jacket yourself you can collect your own jacket from behind the Reception Desk in the Hotel when you return the one you took in error.

Hon Secretary
