Newsletter August 28th 2014

Dear Members,

This evening we had 42 Members taking part in the last of the 2014 Wednesday Summer Scrambles. This was a great turnout and rounded off a great season during which the average number playing each week was more than 30.

The celebrations and presentations afterwards were in our old home - Adrian's Bar - and we were treated to finger food generously supplied by Resort General Manager Mark Howell. Our thanks go to him and to all the Resort Staff who have looked after us so well during the Summer. Special thanks go to Davy and Norma in the Golf Shop for all their help.

A special word of thanks was said in respect of Captain Les, Lady Captain Maria and President Niall for their consistent attendance and support at the Scrambles. On a personal note Ann and I say thank you to them and the Members for the memento presented to us at the Captains Dinner. It is very much appreciated.

In second place tonight with a good score of 28.4 were Les and Scott Broderick. The first prize was won by Shemus Dore and Aisling O'Hara with a great score of 27.6.

Well done to all.

In the past 12 weeks we had no less than 19 different 'pairs' in the prizes and the average winning score was 26.1. Great golf by a good spread of golfers.

Up to tonight the Gross Scramblers of the Year competition was being led with a score of 30. Darryl Litton and Feargal Quinn registered this great score on 23 July with 4 pars, 4 birdies and 1 eagle in a nine hole round with 6 threes! They were not caught and are this year's winners. Fantastic scoring lads.

The Best Nett was held by Lady Captain Maria and President Niall until last week when they were 'pipped' on countback by the overall winners in the Scramblers of the Year 2014 competition Greg and Carol Edwards with a great score of 24.4. Congratulations to them.

Thanks to everyone who took part over the summer - we hope you enjoyed the golf and the camaraderie.

Finally we send best wishes to the Ladies Club team (Maria Carvill, Rosemary Kennedy, Ita McCarron, Mary Curley and Ann Horan) ahead of Saturdays Mid-Leinster Challenge Cup Final in Rosslare. Their opponents on the day are from Castle Bearna G C and whatever the outcome our Ladies have done themselves and the Club proud on getting to this stage of this prestigious ILGU competition.

Regards

John Horan, Hon Secretary
