Tulfarris was not one of the top four Clubs to make it through the Jimmy Bruen Qualifiers played with 14 other Clubs at Edmondstown on Saturday 17 July. Newlands, Castle and Elm Park joined home club Edmondstown in the Semifinals on the following day.
The Club was represented by Mark Walshe and Niall Robinson, Enda Daly and Lenny Murphy, Gavin Buckley and Jay Curley, Jerry Lambe and Paddy Carthy and Pearse Daly and Will Hamill.
Thanks to the team for their efforts on the day and in practicing in advance. Thanks also to Captain Mark Reilly for his support on the day and also to my co- Manager Noel Kelly.
Manager : Mick Curran:
We bowed out of the Jimmy Bruen qualifier in Lisheen Springs. As a panel, we were quite confident we would produce the golf that would get ourselves into the matchplay stages of the competition. Each pairing could not of asked for a better start off the 1st tee. Our final group reached the unreachable for most par 5 1st in 2 and rolled in the putt to give them a -2 par start and from there they built the low round of the day 76 gross. A remarkable score and 3 shots better than the days next best.
The course from tee to green was in great condition with little or no wind blowing, however not too far outside the rough grew very penal long grass. Whatever about our opposing teams, it was this grass that cost Tulfarris dearly. It didn't take a bad shot to find it, when we did, we dropped shots. In the end we missed out by 4 strokes, a thin margin considering. Having said that I was very proud of how all our golfers performed on the day. They showed great spirit and played out to the final hole to the best of their ability. I would like to thank all members of the panel for their time and efforts.
The team who represented the club were Eoin Curley & Will Hamill, Peter Pedersen & Shemus Dore, Darryl Litton & Pearce Daly, Gavin Buckley & Paddy Carthy, Mark Walshe & James McCarron.

Tulfarris were in the Qualifiers for the Jimmy Bruen Shield at Baltinglass on Saturday last June 12th. Tulfarris were represented by Noel A Kelly and Stephen Byrne, Mick Curran and James McCarron, Niall Robinson and Jerry Lambe, Stephen Cullen and Eoin Curley and Ronnie Carroll and Sheamus McGrath.
Despite much practice in advance the team were very unfortunate to "miss the cut" on Saturday evening. The four teams to go through to Sundays semi finals were Dunmurry Springs (320), Newbridge (327), Coollattin (329) and Blessington Lakes (329). Tulfarris, and the hosts Baltinglass, both were just 1 shot back on 330.
Manager Greg Edwards
Tulfarris participated in the Jimmy Bruen Cup Regional Qualifiers played at The Heath today and missed out on qualifying by a very narrow margin.
Eighteen Clubs participated with the early part of the day providing totally dry golfing weather. The first pair on the Tulfarris team teed off at 1.20 p.m. and to say that the weather for a lot of the afternoon rounds was atrocious would be to put it mildly.
The Tulfarris team consisted of 5 pairs playing foursomes golf: Phelim Dolan and Gerry Lambe; Mick Curran and James McCarron; Joe McConville and Kieron Ryan, Stephen Cullen and Pearse Daly and Niall Robinson and Eoin Curley. The best four scores counted towards the team score.
The qualifiers were: Castlecomer (332), Carlow (335), The Heath (337) and Portarlington (337). Tulfarris were just 4 shots off the pace on 341 which was right up there and ahead of other Clubs such as Rathsallagh, Blessington Lakes, Kilkenny, Birr, Mount Wolseley, The Heritage and others.
Team Manager, Greg Edwards said that he was very proud of the great effort put in by the players on the day and by the complete panel of members who had taken the trouble to practice the course on numerous occasions. He said that he was pleased to be associated with such a committed panel of players.
On behalf of the Club I would want to say a big thank you to all involved and especially to Greg who put a lot of work into ensuring that the team was well prepared and well motivated for the event. It was not for want of effort that Tulfarris did not quite make it through today.
John Horan: Hon Secretary
The qualifiers involved sixteen clubs and were played today in Kilkea Castle Golf Club. The top four clubs from today compete in the regional semi finals and final tomorrow.
The format was 5 pairs from each club playing foursomes golf, with four scores to count from each team. Wicklow came out in front with 322, Newbridge was second with 322 also (pipped on countback). Blessington Lakes was third with 326 and Arklow took 4th place with 330. Tulfarris claimed the 6th spot with 332. Regrettably, just a couple of shots short of fourth position.
Our thanks for their great efforts go to Player/Manager Jerry Lambe and his partner Ciaran Curley, Niall Robinson and Stephen Cullen, Noel A Kelly and Myles Burke, Phelim Dolan and James McCarron and Pearse Daly and Peter Pedersen
